How to prepare for a screening
Each screening is unique & in some cases may require that you wear specific clothing or follow pre-screening diets. These guidelines are set to make each & every visit as smooth as possible, but more importantly to get the most accurate results.
Below is a list of screenings & general guidelines, recommendations, & diet limitations to prepare yourself for the screening.
Screenings & related information
Carotid Artery Screening
Please wear an open-collar shirt, or blouse with short sleeves.
No fasting is required.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening
Fast (moderate amounts of water only) for at least 4 hours before your appointment time.
Any meal should be of foods which don’t produce gas in your stomach.
Any meal should be much smaller than normal – no more than half your normal meal.
If you are on prescribed medication, take it as usual.
If you know you’re diabetic and shouldn’t go more than 3 hours without eating during the day, you may eat a very small diabetic meal.
Please wear loose-fitting clothing.
Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening
Please wear a short-sleeved shirt or blouse.
Your shoes and socks should be removed before this screening.
No pantyhose, please.
Atrial Fibrillation (Heart Rhythm) Screening
Please wear a short-sleeved, loose-fitting shirt or blouse.
You will be asked to remove your shoes and stockings.
Please do not wear pantyhose.
Blood Glucose Screening
You must fast for 12 hours in advance of your screening.
A small finger-stick blood sample will be taken.
Liver Function (enzyme) Screening
No fasting is required, but this screening is usually combined with others which do require a 12-hour fast.
A very small finger-stick blood sample will be taken.
Complete Lipid Panel Screening
You must fast for 12 hours in advance of your screening.
A very small finger-stick blood sample will be taken.
